Assesment methods:
During the semester simplified projects are solved and two tests are written. Final grade assessment is generated from: semester assignments 20%, each test 5%, final exam 70%.

 
Learning outcomes of the course unit:
The subject complements knowledge of students regarding Fire Protection of buildings. Design is practiced of principles of active protection - fixed firefighting systems, smoke and heat control systems and electric fire alarm systems. The subject complements knowledge of students in the field of hydraulic, natural and forced ventilation.
 
Course contents:
•Active and passive fire protection systems. Basic characteristics and concept of active fire protection systems design.
•Fixed firefighting systems. Water automatic sprinkler systems. Drencher fire control systems. Water curtain.
•Design of water sources, pipework, control equipment, sprinkler and drencher heads. Hydraulic calculation, usage of Hazen- Williams’s formula.
•Special fixed fire control systems. Gaseous, foam and powder systems.
•Electric fire alarm systems. Concept of components design (fire detectors, central controller and wire circuit).
•Smoke and heat control systems. Natural and forced extraction of smoke and heat in single-storey buildings.
•Ventilating of fire protected escape routes.
•Fire prevention in ventilating systems.
•Fire control systems and its connection to building construction design. Solution of fire stopping systems (penetration seals for service installations). Chimneys.
