Learning outcomes of the course unit:
R is a programming language and a free software environment intended primarily
for statistical computing and graphics. Its popularity at universities grows
all over the world which predetermines it also for employing in practice.
Besides recapitulating and extending the knowledge of statistical methods,
student gets into R operating principles, the most essential program packages,
integrated development environments and graphical interfaces, tools for
visualization of raw data and results. After the course completion he/she should
be able to analyze and process real statistical data as well as be prepared
for more challenging subjects such as Data Mining and Time Series Analysis.
R as a programming language can be utilized also to support computations
within other courses of the study program MPM.
Course contents:
- Introduction to R, summary of the related development environments and graphical interfaces.
- The qualitative and the quantitative data manipulation.
- Visualization of multidimensional data.
- The point and the interval estimates of probability distribution parameters.
- Tests of statistical hypotheses.
- Regression, ANOVA, generalized linear model, fitting nonlinear functions.
- Programming, parallelization.
- Export/import, employing R within the computer algebra system Wolfram Mathematica.
- Survey of non-statistical applications.
