Learning outcomes of the course unit:
Student will become familiar with the principles of choice and design of central heating systems in buildings and their individual components in terms of optimizing the consumption of fuels and energy sources especially heat - boiler, heat delivery stations, heating system components and their practical applications in heating technology.
 
Course contents:
Purpose of the heating, energy demands of buildings, social aspects of energy requirements.
Heat demand and energy consumption in buildings -- heating, ventilation and air conditioning. The projected building heat loss. Thermal comfort in heated spaces.
Heat sources -- layout, fuel base. Low pressure household solid fuel boilers -- disposition solutions, construction requirements, construction modifications. Low pressure household gase and liquid fuel boilers -- disposition solutions, construction requirements.
Central heating systems for supply -- layout, advantages, disadvantages, design of thermal networks.
Pressure-dependent and independent delivery stations -- disposition, construction requirements
Heating system equipment -- security devices, pumps, heaters, armature, thermal insulation.
Water heating systems -- hot-water, warm-water, with gravity and forced circulation.
Heating system with steam and hot air. Radiant heating -- large surface (floor, ceiling, wall), hanging radiant panels, radiant panels, infra-red heaters.
Measurement and control of thermal heating performance -- central (qualitative, quantitative), individual, application of non-traditional sources of energy for heating, solar energy, energy of geothermal water, heat pumps.
