Learning outcomes of the course unit:
The student will acquire basic knowledge of solid state physics. He will be able to understand basic physical properties of technologically important materials.
Course contents:
Crystal structure of solids. Mechanical properties - tensile, shear and torsion deformation. Thermal properties - thermal capacity, thermal expansion, thermal conductivity, thermal shock. Electrical conductivity and its measurement. Electronic band structure of solids. Metals, intrinsic semiconductors, extrinsic semiconductors and their conductivity. Superconductivity.
