|Learning outcomes of the course unit:|
|Provide students with knowledge regarding the metabolism, genetics, diversity and biotic relationships of microorganisms with emphasis on practical applications and the role of microorganisms in biotechnology, medicine and environmental processes.|
|Viruses, bacteriophages, prions.
Genetics of microorganisms, mutation, gene transfer and recombination. Selection of mutants. Microbial genomics, genetic engineering.
Host-pathogen interactions. Microorganisms as origin of infectious diseases. Virulence, pathogenicity, antimicrobial therapy.
Microorganisms in the biosphere.
Catabolic and anabolic processes of microorganisms and their technological significance and importance in medicine.
