Learning outcomes of the course unit:
Students will acquire advanced knowledge of chemical and technological processes of individual and mass conservation of cultural heritage objects of various kinds. They acquire the ability criteria for the classification of individual operations given the state of preservation of the object and conditions. They will know the principles of preventive conservation.
 
Course contents:
Characteristics of heritage objec from poin of view of choice and application of protection methods. Variability of material composition, shape and size, technological parameters, the degree of damage, the protection capacity. Preliminry and final quality control in process of preservation. Cleaning - mechanical and chemical, desalination, washing. Sterilization and disinfection. Impregnation methods in the preservation of different types of materials - wood, paper, textiles, stone. Deacidification technologies - aqueous and non-aqueous processes. Consolidation and petrification. Drying. Plasma-protection technology. Preventive conservation and preservation. Fire protection and safety in storage and accessibility of heritage.
