Prerequisites for registration: none
 
Assesment methods:
The prerequisite for graduation is personal participation at the block workshop in a designated region of Slovakia and preparation of a written essay on a selected topic. Finally, the student passes the final test and oral exam. The test is scored 50 points. The requirement for an oral exam is to earn more than 26 points from written test. Oral examination is evaluated by maximum 30 points. A minimum of 16 points is required for passing an oral exam. Students will be awarded the credit if they pass a written test and a oral exam. The score is as follows: A 80 - 74 points; B 72 - 66 points; C 64 - 58 points; D 56 - 50 points; E 48 - 42 points.
 
Learning outcomes of the course unit:
The student will learn about the characteristics and conditions of use of building materials in the past historical periods. He will gain experience in identifying the morphology of individual style periods. He will be familiar with the current available building materials and technologies as well as the conditions for their use in the renovation and maintenance of the historical and monumental architectural fund. He will can determine the critical properties of new materials when used on a historical building fund.
 
Course contents:
-Studies, characteristics and use of materials for construction in the past according to individual style periods,
-historical and traditional technologies and constructions used in individual stylistic periods, -consumer of historical constructions, their causes,
-the principles of optimal technical intervention for the monument fund - on the basis of international recommendations and charts,
- application of new materials and technologies for reconstruction of the monument fund
- principles of material co-operation and discontinuity manifestations,
- selected techniques of reconstruction intervention on the historical architectural fund - examples and case analysis
