Assesment methods:
Final grade will be based on continuous assessment of students which will comprise 1 oral presentation of a specialist topic earning 45 points,a report earning 35 points, home assignments earning 10 points and overall activity during the semester earning 10 points.
Learning outcomes of the course unit:
Aims and objectives:
To develop skills and strategies in oral and written communication and so enhance students' professionalism and employability.
After having completed the course, students should be able:
•to communicate in speaking and writing competently and effectively in various situations,
•differentiate formal, informal and neutral communication styles,
•use different communication strategies,
•communicate appropriately in multicultural setting
•use different genres of written communication, e.g. application, formal letter, email message, project etc.,
• write cv and covering letter professionally.
Course contents:
Definition of communication, types and components of communication, different styles and strategies of communication, verbal and non-verbal communication, spoken and written communication, diplomacy, cross-cultural communication, active listening, criticism vs feedback, professional telephoning, conflict solution, communication in a company, official correspondence, specifics of electronic written communication, Europass professional CV, covering letter, typical students' writing mistakes, writing a specialist text and abstract-structure and layout, copyright, plagiarism, and citations.
