Assesment methods:
Preparation, execution and processing of measurements - 30 points,
Final exam (written and oral) - 70 points.
Learning outcomes of the course unit:
Student understands the principles of the measurement and its evaluation. He learns analyzing properties of selected analog and digital instrument. Student gains a basic knowledge of automated measuring systems. He learns design and implementation of selected methods for measuring electrical and non-electrical quantities, as well as processing and interpretation of measurement results.
Course contents:
1 introduction to measurement: what is measurement?, history and present of measurement, SI units, metrology system, electrical measurements, measurement chain, measurement error
2 interpretation of measurement results: accuracy of measurement, errors and uncertainties of measurement, additional errors, difference between error and uncertainty of measurement
3 analog instruments: features, connection, electromechanical instruments, moving-coil instrument principle, measuring transducers, measuring transducer errors
4 digital instruments: AD and DA conversion, basic features and types of converters, digital multimeter, distortion at measurement
5 oscilloscopes: using, types, basic parameters, principle, probes, measurement using oscilloscopes
6 automated measurement systems: virtual instruments, used interfaces, data acquisition cards, software of measurement systems, introduction to LabView
7 voltage measurement: standards, voltage dividers, voltage transformers, error of method, low and high voltage measurement, comparators, compensators, differential voltage measurement
8 current measurement: standard, shunt, I-U converter, error of method, Hall probe, clamp ammeter, current transformer, Rogowski coil
9 power and energy measurement: measurement of DC power, 1phase AC power, 3phase AC power, reactive power, electricity meters
10 frequency, time and phase measurement: counter, measurement using oscilloscope
11 impedance measurement: standards, resistance measurement (medium, small, large), impedance measurement, methods, digital measurement, parasitics
12 measurement of non-electrical quantities: unbalanced bridge, resistive, capacitive and inductance sensors, thermocouples, inductive sensors, optical sensors, other types of sensors
13 special measurements: measurement of E and H fields, TDR method, introduction to electromagnetic compatibility
