Assesment methods:
Preparation, execution and processing of measurements - 30 points,
Final exam (written and oral) - 70 points.
Learning outcomes of the course unit:
Student understands the principles of the measurement and its evaluation. He learns analyzing properties of selected analog and digital instrument. Student gains a basic knowledge of automated measuring systems. He learns design and implementation of selected methods for measuring electrical and non-electrical quantities, as well as processing and interpretation of measurement results.
Course contents:
1 Introduction to measurement: measurement definition, its history and present, SI units, metrology system, electrical measurements, measurement chain, measurement error
2 Interpretation of measurement results: measurement precision and accuracy, measurement result, measurement errors and uncertainties, accuracy of measuring instruments, additional errors, estimation of measurement uncertainty
3 Measuring instruments: characteristics, connection to the circuit, effect of instrument, electromechanical instruments, principle of moving-coil instrument, electronic instruments, measuring transducers and their errors
4 Digital instruments: AD and DA conversion, basic characteristics and types of converters, reference voltage source, digital multimeter, distortion at measurement
5 Oscilloscopes: usage, types, analog vs. digital oscilloscopes, basic parameters, oscilloscope principle, oscilloscope probes, oscilloscope measurement
6 Automated measurement system: virtual instruments, standardized interfaces, data aquisition cards, communication structure, introduction to LabView
7 Voltage measurement: voltage standards, error of method, AC and DC voltage measurement, voltage divider, compensator, voltage transformer, differential voltage measurement
8 Current measurement: current standards, error of method, AC and DC current measurement, shunt, I-V converter, Hall probe, clamp ammeter, current transformer, Rogowski coil
9 Power and energy measurement: measurement of DC power, 1-phase AC power, 3-phase AC power, reactive power, power consumption
10 Measurement of passive quantities: resistance and impedance standards, resistance measurement, equivalent circuit ofimpedance, impedance measurement
11 Time and frequency measurement: frequency standards, universal counter, phase, phase measurement, sampling method
12 Measurement of electromagnetic fields: measurements on cables, measurement of magnetic, electrical and RF electromagnetic fields, introduction to electromagnetic compatibility
13 Measurement of non-electrical quantities: sensor/probe, types and principles of sensors, principles of basic non-electrical quantities measurement
