Assesment methods:
Over the course of the semester there will be one test for 10 points. Maximum of 30 points can be obtained for the completion of the laboratory assignments and preparing a presentation about the assigned project based on theoretical knowledge and the results of laboratory exercises. Student must attend all of the laboratory exercises. Maximum of 60 points can be obtained on the written final exam and therefore maximum of 100 points can be obtained over the whole course. Resulting mark based on the number of points obtained by the end of the course is determined by the current study rules.
 
Learning outcomes of the course unit:
Student will gain understanding of the mechanisms of mutual electromagnetic interference between electronic systems and also understanding of the principles of propagation, transmission and processing of radio frequency energy. He will be introduced to basic principles governing the electromagnetic interference at low and high frequencies. He will learn the principles of formation and effects of unintentional couplings between electronic systems and also methods for prevention and suppression of these couplings. He will gain general design skills to ensure electromagnetic compatibility of the electronic system which is a precondition for their reliability.
 
Course contents:
Basic types of electromagnetic (EM) coupling, radiated - conducted electromagnetic interference, properties of electronic systems from in view of EMC. Conducted interference (emission) - method description, source of interfering signals and its characteristics, measurement methods. Radiated interference - emission models, field characteristics near of EM, near and far zone. Properties of the passive elements in view of EMC - conductors, capacitors, coils, EMC special electric elements. Crosstalk - characteristics, basic types, analysis of coupling mechanisms, reducting methods. Shielding principles and frequency shielding characteristics, design, principles. Filtering, principles, design, principles. Grounding, principles, grounding structure. Impulse interference - specifications, resources, models, reducting methods. Methods of prediction and analysis of interference influence - EMC components models, models of complex systems. Overview of EMC standards.
