Learning outcomes of the course unit:
Basic principles of quantum mechanics, imprtant for the understanding of properties of materials:
properties of quantum particle, spin, wave mechanics, tunneling, atomic and molecular structure,
statistical physics of quantum particles.
 
Course contents:
Physical constants, typical scales of energy, time, space, velocity. Physical quantities in quantum mechanics. Wave function, Schroedinger equation. Measurements in quantum physics, uncertaintly principle, correspondence principle. Systems ofmany quantum particles: fermions, bosons. Simple quantum systems: transmission of quantum particle through potential well, tunneling. Harmonic oscillator. Hydrogen atom: angular momentum, eigenenergies, eigenfunctions.
Many-electron atoms, optical and RTG spectra. Quantum particle in double-well potential. Molecules, molecular rotations and vibrations. Crystal, phonons, thermal capacity of crystals.
