Assesment methods:
Attendance on practice and evolvement of the reports. Student has to be present at all practices according to the schedule for the current semester. After an excuse for absence on laboratory exercise student has to practise the topic in compensatory date. If the student reaches less than 15 points during the semester on the practices, he will not be permitted to an exam (practices: max. 20%, exam 80%).
Learning outcomes of the course unit:
After the completion of the subject the student acquires basic knowledge about different types and properties of materials used in nuclear reactors and nuclear power engineering, about radiation damage, possibilities of long-term monitoring and eliminating of neutron embrittlement of steel reactor pressure vessels.

 Introduction to the physical metallurgy
 Radiation damage of materials
 Nuclear fuels materials, uranium, plutonium, thorium, enrichment
 Moderators and coolants
 Absorbing materials
 Construction materials (fuel cladding)
 Construction steels in NPP, steels for RPV, steels for non-active zone components
 Radiation and corrosion problems,
 Fracture in materials for NPP
 The programme of verification samples of radiation embrittlement
 Extending the life of reactor pressure vessels, annealing of pressure vessel
