Assesment methods:
Continuous assessment includes work on 2 individual projects (25 points) and passing the continuous assessment test (15 points). For a successful completion of the course, the student has to obtain at least 18 points from the continuous assessment.
 
Learning outcomes of the course unit:
On completing the course, the student gains knowledge and practical skills on automated processes in automotive production with respect to the structure of production information system, supervisory control, data acquisition (SCADA), programmable logical controllers and their programming, and on communication protocols. He will gain knowledge on formal description of the manufacturing process from the viewpoint of the discrete event systems theory, and on program systems for modelling and simulation of manufacturing processes as well.
 
Course contents:
Structure of the production process in an automotive manufacturing plant. Characteristics of production processes from the viewpoints of automation, control and informatization. Production information system, structures, methods and algorithms of manufacturing control. Distributed control structures of automated production lines, data acquisition (SCADA), programmable logical processors, their structure, programming and role within a SCADA system, communication protocols, topologies and industrial communication networks. Formulation of control tasks in discrete productions. Program systems for modelling, simulation and control of automotive production lines.
