• Completion of 8 laboratory excercises and submitting protocols from measurements - max. 40 points
• Presentation of the selected topic at the final seminar - max. 20 points
• Final exam - 40 points

A minimum of 92 points is required to obtain an A level, a B level of at least 83 points, a C level of at least 74 points, a D level of at least 65 points, and an E level of at least 56 points.
Learning outcomes of the course unit:
In the course the subject is to provide basic information to students necessary for understanding the processes taking place in the living matter, which are usually related to the transmission of electric charges (electric, magnetic, optical phenomena). In the form of laboratory exercises to familiarize them with the work with biological samples and the implementation of electrical and optical measurements on these objects.
Course contents:
Biological evolution. Biological cell structure, biological importance of cell, organelles. Structure of biological macromolecules: nucleic acids, the nature of the genetic code in cells, genetic engineering; protein; polysaccharides. Biomembranes: physical fundamentals of membrane organization and dynamics, membrane transport, electric field in membrane. Neurobiophysics: propagation of electrical signals along the nerve fibres, central nervous system, neural networks. Biomechanics: molecular basis of muscle contraction. Photobiophysics: photosynthesis. Visual receptor. Organic photovoltaic systems. Biosensors.
