Learning outcomes of the course unit: |
To provide students with knowledge of the acellular infectious particles, metabolism, genetics, diversity and biotic relationships of microorganisms with emphasis on practical applications in biotechnology, medicine and environmental processes. |

Course contents: |
Viruses, bacteriophages, prions. Genetics of microorganisms, mutation, gene transfer and recombination. Selection of mutants. Microbial genomics, genetic engineering. Virulence, pathogenicity, host-pathogen interactions. Microorganisms as agents of infectious diseases. Microorganisms in the biosphere. Catabolic and anabolic processes of microorganisms and their technological importance. |
