Learning outcomes of the course unit:
Acquisition of basic theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of use of modern methods of physical and chemical analysis and preservation of color layers that are part of the cultural heritage objects: a wall hanging paintings, colored stucco, polychrome sculpture, illuminations on paper and parchment, colored layers on glass, skin, wood and textiles.
Course contents:
Compositions of colour layers, different substrates, binders and filmforming agents, native and syntetic pigments. Basic techniques of colour layers creation. Physical and chemical inspection methods, dating, origin identification, conservation attack. Noninvasive methods, optical microscopy. Sampling, handling, storage and identification.
