Assesment methods:
There is a 20 point prelimeinary written test during the term and there are also 3 assignments to be solved. The succesfull accomplishment of the written test and handing in the aforementioned assigments are prerequisites for taking part in the final examination, whitch in addition can have a conversational part.
The weight of the final examination is 80 points.
The overall apraisal of the exam resalts takes into accont the sum of the point coming from the preliminary test and the final examination as follows:

Learning outcomes of the course unit:
Subject elasticity and strength of materials allows to obtain basic orientation in the problems of design and strength control of simple structural elements and gives a theoretical foundation for the study of applied elasticity and numerical solutions of problems of strength.
 
Course contents:
• Terminology, methods of section, basic type od loading, stress-strain diagram of materials
• Problems of simple tension and compression, allowable stresses
• State of stress at a point in the body,
• Deformation at a point in the body,
• Generalized Hooke's law, strain energy
• Strength hypothesis
• Torsion of circular and non-circular members, Bredt´s formulas
• Bending of straight beams, deflection of beams using differencial equation and Castigliano's theorem
• Sulution of statically determined/indetermined cases
• Bending Stress and sher fow from bending
• Stress analysis of contructions using simple and combined lodings
• Broken beams and curved beams
• Basic problems of buckling
