Learning outcomes of the course unit:
Aim of the subject is to provide advanced knowledge form the topic of ordinary and partial differential equations and selected numerical methods from the point of view of its utilization for solution of practical engineering tasks. The main objective is to strengthen the students ability to apply differential diagnostics to the problem - to analyze it from the numerical standpoint, to choose a suitable numerical method for its solution and to implement this method to solve particular engineering problems.
Course contents:
Classification of partial differential equations (PDR) and their connections to physical problems. Numerical and approximative solution methods.
Method of finite differences, variational methods and finite elements method.
Basic concepts, domain of influence and dependencies for different types of equations, characteristics.
Basic principles of solutions for convection, diffusion and dispersion, exact solutions.
