Learning outcomes of the course unit:
The student will gain basic knowledge about the system of labour law in the Slovak Republic, understand the basic concepts of the legal branch, learn to orientate in labour law, understand the principles and functioning of the labour law system as one of the branches of the Slovak legal order, acquire basic knowledge about labour law standards and court decisions relevant for work in the industrial enterprise, understand the specificities of the labour relations in the field, familiarise with the collective labour law issues (collective bargaining, collective agreements, and collective disputes).
Course contents:
1. Labour law, concept, function, system, subject, systematics, classification, sources
2. Basic principles of labour law, basic concepts of labour law
3. Establishment, change and termination of labour relations, securing of obligations in labour law, creation, change, termination of employment
4. Working time, holiday, pay for work done
5. Labour discipline, legal duties of the employee, disciplinary liability
6. Barriers to work on the part of the employer, barriers to work on the part of the employee, compensation of wages, reimbursement of expenses in connection with the performance of work
7. Agreements on work performed outside the employment relationship, agreement on performance of work, agreement on student's part-time work, agreement on work activity
8. Working conditions for specific categories of staff, working conditions for women and men working for children, working conditions for minors
9. Liability for damage to the enterprise, employee liability, employer's liability
10. Occupational health and safety, employee/employer's obligations, occupational accidents and the procedure
11. Corporate social policy, employee catering, training, security for temporary incapacity to work
12. Collective Labour Relations, Collective Bargaining, Collective Agreements, Trade Unions, Employee Councils
13. Collective disputes, strike, lockout
