Assesment methods:
During the semester students can get max. 40 points, 20 points per the written test and two students’ work during the semester (semester work), together per 20. For the exam max. 60 points can be obtained. For A is necessary to obtain min. 92 points, for B min. 83 points, for C min. 74 points, for D min. 65 points and for E min. 56 points. Students who obtain less than 5 points from the written exam cannot get credits.
Learning outcomes of the course unit:
Graduates will be able to explain the principle of the renewable energy sources (solar, hydro and wind energy, tidal and wave energy, energy from biomass). They will know the basic principles of the fusion and hydrogen economy. They will be able to analyse the renewable problematic in the context of energy policy in Slovakia and in European Union. They will be able to use the software for calculation of the basic energy balance and economic recoverability of the renwables.
Course contents:
Trends in the worldwide power engineering with accent to renewable energy sources. Utilization of renewable: hydro energy, tidal and wave energy, wind energy (onshore and offshore installation, types of the wind turbines, Betz limit), biomass (types, composition and utilization of biomass), solar energy (photovoltaic and thermal utilization). Accumulation of the energy (hydrogen economy and fuel cells). Fusion. Energy policy and energy process. Energy conceptions and directions.
