Assesment methods:
Executing all laboratory exercises and one test during the semester. Submission of all lab reports/thesis. 20 points for exercises altogether, 80 points for written exam. Minimal required points for E grade is 56.
Learning outcomes of the course unit:
The aim of this subject is to introduce the basic principles and properties of electrical machines. The student will learn how to use various types of electrical machines in practice and how to perform basic measurements on them.
Course contents:
Principles of energy conversion, transformers, operating conditions, three-phase transformers. Winding types used in rotating electrical machines, magnetic field created by windings, induced voltage, power ratios and torque, starting of induction machines and speed control. Synchronous machines with round rotor and salient poles, induced voltage and armature reaction, synchronous machine working in island mode. DC motors, dynamic model, DC motors with permanent magnets, brushless DC motors. Stepper motors, operating characteristics. AC synchronous motors, design configuration, dynamic model of AC motor. Semiconductor frequency converters for AC motors, frequency - amplitude scalar and vector control of AC motors, structure of servo control systems, the generator of electromagnetic torque. Speed actuator structure, synthesis of speed regulators, servo positioning, design of regulators for position servo drives.
