Title of the thesis:Foundation design of the bridge on highway D4
Summary:The aim of Master thesis is a design of foundation for selected piers (Pier no.3 and no.6) of highway bridge (Object no.204) in Bratislava. Object no.204 will be a part of multiple bridges in circumferential highway D4 which main purpose is the reduction of heavy (transit) traffic in central city. First part includes proposed design of bridge cross-sectional parameters, static system and technical information about superstructure and substructure. Also provides theoretical background used in design of foundation, requirements of Eurocode and determination of loads acting on designed structure. Second part elaborate engineering geological conditions of considered area with specific character influenced by historical evolution of river Danube containing complex of Quaternary sediments and Neogene soils. Evaluation of characteristic values of ground properties is proposed based on ground testing and experience. Deformation parameters of individual complexes are evaluated with statistical methods described in thesis by using set derived values of ground properties obtained from dynamic penetration tests (DPS) for gravel complex and Pressuremeter tests (PM) in Neogene soil. DPS and PM were realized at selected locations of foundations along the bridge longitudinal axis. Third and last part consist of final design of deep foundation as group of large diameter piles considering relatively thin layer of gravel complex. Multiple approaches are used to calculate bearing resistance of single pile and its transformation into pile group by using efficiency factors of the pile group. Design must satisfy requirements according to limit states theory with sufficient resistance against designed loads and limiting value of settlement for bridge foundations.
