Title of the thesis:Foundation design for railway bridge over river Váh
Summary:The aim of this master thesis is foundation design for piers of a bridge object number 18, which is a part of railways, direction from Púchov to Žilina, from kilometer 161,072 to 162,362. The bridge carries two rail tracks which are both curved. Besides side supports, the bridge is supported by additional middle piers. Foundation design was realized for two specific middle piers, number 2 and 4. The pier number 4 is situated in the middle of river Váh, therefore design of a cofferdam was needed. Load imposed on the soil by superstructure, substructure and variable loading was calculated in accordance to Eurocodes STN EN 1990, STN EN 1991 and STN EN 1992. Foundation design was calculated according to Eurocode STN EN 1997 and Slovak Standard STN 73 1001. Geological and hydrogeological conditions of the area were taken from an investigation carried out by company GEOFOS, s r.o. Deep foundations with piles designed, taking into account intensity of loads, ground characteristics and engineering-geotechnical conditions. Piers, respectively foundations were checked and designed to withstand combinations of loads which cause the highest intensity of load imposed on the soil. Different types of foundations are designed and analyzed in this thesis. Design and check procedure was carried out for a cofferdam needed for the pier number 4 was as well. Calculations needed for this thesis were performed in software Mathcad, Excel, SCIA Engineer, GEO5 and Plaxis 2D.
