Title of the thesis:Laboratory testing of soil deformation properties
Summary:Determination of the coefficient of consolidation in soils using oedometer testing method and ACONS. To determine the coefficient of consolidation using oedometer laboratory tests usually two common methods are used, Casagrande and Taylor. In this paper, the ACONS apparatus and ClispStudio program are characterized. The methodology and the test results of determination of the coefficient of consolidation are presented. In the paper, the laboratory test results obtained from Automatic CONsolidation System are analyzed and the relationships between coefficient of consolidation, deformation parameters of soil, void ratio, and vertical stress are also presented. The analysis of deformation parameters plays an important role in civil engineering, the good analysis gives us very accurate answers for a very important parameter such as compression index Cc and oedometer modulus Eoed and that will be utilized in an efficient way to be a major key in settlement calculation of the foundation. Compression index Cc is more representative characteristic of deformation behavior of soil than oedometer modulus Eoed. Compression index can be derived using correlation with basic soil geotechnical parameters, e.g. liquid limit.
