Title of the thesis:Geotechnical design of foundations for diplomatic district in Bratislava
Summary:The geotechnical design of foundations was executed for the buildings in the new diplomatic district in Bratislava. For the more realistic representation of the subsoil, two different geological profiles were selected based on ground investigation in this area and comparable experience. Typical building was five floors construction, two floors over-ground parking and the rest three offices. Calculations were mainly focused on settlement and bearing capacity of spread foundations on soft soil. Procedure of calculation was executed in program GEO5, most crucial cases were compared by analytical calculation in Excel and Mathcad. Bearing capacity was satisfactory, even though with very large foundation dimensions. The main problem appeared in settlement of foundation due to unfavorable properties of the subsoil. Settlement is very important for the stability and durability of the structure. Thus, soil replacement method was used for the improvement of subsoil conditions. This method was used as it was considered as the most economic and sufficient for this structure. Three different approaches of calculation were used and compared. Final results using replacement were significantly improved.
