|Title of the thesis:||Settlement analysis of spread foundation design|
|Summary:||The aim of my thesis is a problem of a foundation settlement. It mainly focuses on the basic principles and calculations of such a settlement and outlines elementary design rules which must be fulfilled in design of structures. The thesis is divided into 5 parts. The first part is a brief review of a foundation design and shallow foundation types for which the settlement is the main objective in this thesis. The second part describes behaviour of shallow foundations and defines two basic limit states used in geotechnical engineering. The third chapter is devoted to the settlement itself, defines some types of settlement, states how it can be calculated and briefly describes settlement analysis according to Eurocode 7. The fourth part includes results of my laboratory testing of fine-grained soils and settlement calculations for spread footing- The last part, conclusion, outlines the two major problems concerning the settlement analysis.|
