Title of the thesis:Design of a batch stirred fermentor for citric acid production
Summary:The batch stirred bioreactor design for the production of citric acid with molds Aspergillus niger under aerobic conditions is the aim of this diploma work. The bioreactor volume and number of bioreactors is chosen on the basis of potential market. The year and the batch production are estimated from suitable kinetic data adopted from literature by using mathematical model. The mathematical model is made up on the knowledge combination of metabolic processes (microbial phenomena), which include stoichiometry, thermodynamics of cell cultivation, and microbial kinetics, and the physical processes (transport phenomena) such as mixing, power consumption, mass and heat transfer. High concentration of citric acid is chosen as the optimization criterion when conversion of glucose, limiting substrate, achieves 95 percent. Economic aspects are performed on the basis of a rough preliminary cost analysis (capital and operation costs).
