Title of the thesis:Remote experiment control system
Summary:The purpose of this work is to develop a control system that will enable remote operation of a very sensitive scientific experiment. The experiment measures weak gravitational effects and is therefore extremely susceptible to a broad range of environment-based disturbances, such as vibrations or magnetism. Since human activity in proximity of the experimental apparatus usually spoils the measurement entirely, the experiment has to be controlled remotely and should be sufficiently automatized to enable its placement in areas where these disturbances are less severe. Therefore, a control system focused on remote control and features of autonomy is designed and implemented. A suitable communication technique is suggested and the hardware as well as the software design of the system is presented. The result of this work is a control system, which can be remotely configured to carry out measurements following a custom schedule, independently of its location. It is also able to provide measurements results through a control station onto which data is stored after being transferred from the remote system. In conclusion, further work is proposed in development of an improved experimental method that has never been successfully performed in the past due to technical difficulties. However, these difficulties could be overcome nowadays in an elegant way by using modern methods of actuation.
