Title of the thesis:Determination of rock strength for foundations
Summary:Point load testing is used to determine rock strength indexes in geotechnical practice. The point load test apparatus and procedure enables economical testing of core or lump rock samples in either or laboratory setting.in order to estimate uniaxial compressive strength, conversion factors are used. These factors have been proposed by various researches and dependent upon rock type. PLT tests were made on samples of rocks on 2 selected localities in Slovakia. It was confirmed that the plain pressure strength obtained by the PLT test depends on the type of rock and its structure. The results obtained by me can be used when designing objects in these locations.
Key words: Point load test, strength in compressed rock, Rock types
