Title of the thesis:Automated pressure measurement system around the aerodynamic elements of the vehicle
Summary:The aim of this work is developing an automated measurement system that can process the effect of the airflow which generates static pressure on the surface of one of the profiles of a rear spoiler of a racing car participating in the international Formula Student race. To properly understand the aim and the motivation of this analysis, the thesis starts with a general treatment of aerodynamics in motor sports. This builds the foundation for the simulation of the automotive aerodynamic device. The simulation results yield the first set of data for the verification of the proposed solution. The validation of the simulation data is carried out by conducting measurements on a racing car driving on a closed circuit. The racing car was equipped with an Arduino Uno microcontroller development board which is able to store data, establish a connection with a smartphone, measure the pressure and the speed not only of the racing car but also the airflow around the car during a race. The final comparison of predefined physical quantities is conducted using a spreadsheet application.
