Title of the thesis:Radiation exposure in nuclear medicine
Summary:This thesis intends to measure the dose equivalent rate from the Clinac 2100C linear accelerator. The dose equivalent rate will be measured in specific distances and heights from the accelerator during different operational programmes of the accelerator. Influence of the accelerator operation on the service personnel will be evaluated. This thesis is divided into four chapters. The first chapter serves to describe the different medical practices for cancer treatment. Emphasis will be given on the use of ionizing radiation for medical practices. The second chapter gives the description of quantities and their corresponding units used in dosimetry. The third chapter serves as an introduction to the measurement instrument GAMMA-SCOUT. This instrument is sensitive to alpha, beta and gamma radiation. It is calibrated to measure the dose equivalent per second. Verification of its proper function will be done by comparing values obtained from the instrument by values obtained from calibration instrument Thermo. The concluding fourth chapter explains our measurement procedures and evaluates experiment which was done at the National Cancer Institute in Bratislava. This experiment deals with dose the service personnel receive during patient manipulation and immediately after the accelerator shutdown.
