Title of the thesis:Study of plasma treatments to surfaces of heritage objects
Summary:Thesis deals with the study of plasma treatment on objects of cultural heritage, whilst focusing on metal threads. It describes the effects of plasma treatment to remove corrosion products and surface contamination, investigating these effects by Fourier transformation infrared spectroscopy. The theoretical part introduces metal threads as part of cultural heritage. It describes their composition, methods of manufacture and cleaning. It also contains information on the corrosion of metals, especially copper, gold and silver, from which these metal threads were made. It gives a basic description of the plasma, the ways of its formation and it´s physicochemical effects. In the experimental part, the results of plasma treatment of selected samples of metal threads, presented in the form of optical microscope images and absorption spectra, are summarized. Also included in this section are the results of alternative measurement methods used to supplement the knowledge and information from infrared spectroscopy.
