Title of the thesis:Revitalization of the flow Porec nearby the village Zavod
Summary:The present thesis presents a proposal of restoration measures in the examinedsection of the Porecstream. In the past, the functionality of the wetland ecosystem of the site was significantly distorted, when the area was drained completely (in the 60s of the 20th century). The particularity of the project consisted in an attempt to meet two contradictory requirements: to maintain the flood control and to increase the retention capacity of the stream channel. Therefore, the restoration measures are designed to increase theaccumulation capacity of the flow, to optimize discharge rates and to stabilize groundwater levels. The proposed restoration plan is essential for the achievement ofa favourable condition of the area. Increasing groundwater levels in the area will create suitable conditions for recovery of the rare habitat of national importance --alder peat forests, as well as of several protected flora and fauna species of national and European importance (Somatochlora flavomaculata, Sphagnum sp., Drosera rotundifolia, Eriophorum sp. and other). An important factor is the presence of the protected European beaver (Castor fiber) in the given area and its significant impact on the water level regime of thestreamflow.
Key words:stream restoration, flood control, retention capacity, habitat
