Mondi’s philosophy is to make the best from our valuable raw material wood. Climate change results in more and more hot and dry summers mean considerable growing stresses to the tree which leads to a lower resistance towards bark beetle infections. Effected wood is stored in the forest and dryness of wood is increasing gradually. Your task would be to use a combination of wood chips at different moisture content and shapes/thickness of wood and treat it in a wood biorefinery reactor to liberate valuable feed stock materials such cellulose fibers, lignin and hemicelluloses/sugars. Chips from industrial chipper (Mondi Štětí) of different dryness and different thickness will be cooked in lab conditions for two different kappa number levels. The yield, the residual lignin content and the rejected / untreated wood shall be analysed. Performing your bachelor thesis with Mondi gives you a great opportunity to get to know our worldwide network of mills and plants.
