|Project description:||The up-to-day trend of design of concrete structures is based on the currently valid set of the European standards. In the design practice, design is oriented mainly on the effects of direct loads. The society is increasingly confronted with progressive collapse, respectively significant failures of buildings and civil engineering works. The progressive collapse is mainly due to combination of accidental loads, errors and mistakes in their design and execution. The failures signify that impact of indirect and environmental loads has not been taken into account. These failures threaten mainly the serviceability and durability of structures. The engineering activities include design, execution, monitoring, service and operational activities. Such comprehensive approach should be applied especially for national infrastructure, which represent a high risk of danger to people or environment (nuclear power plants, dams, high-rise buildings) or have a special strategic importance (bridges, tunnels).|
