Project description:Peak channel hydro-electric power plants constitute a significant control element of our electric system. They are used especially for the purpose of covering variable load, they constitute the emergency reserve of the system (rotating or from a standstill) and they participate in the regulation of frequency and the transmitted power. These dynamic functions may be utilised in peak channel hydro-electric power plants very efficiently and have recently come to the fore in the operation of the afore-mentioned power plants. Water is the carrier of primary energy in hydro-electric power plants. When water flows in the derivation channels, hydraulic losses occur. Undesirable waves that threaten the related objects of the water constructional works emerge in the peak operation as well. By minimising hydraulic losses and the wave motion during operation, the utilisation of the power capacity of channel hydro-electric power plants may be increased while ensuring dynamic services for the electric system.
