Project description:The main objective of the scientific project is to contribute by new knowledge to the technology of preparation and to characterization of carbon nanotubes (CNTs), thus to determining the composition of nanotube layers in dependence on the type of CNTs.The kernel of the scientific project is catalytic synthesis of CNTs exploiting two essential technological processes, namely pre-treatment and deposition of a catalyzer, and subsequent deposition of CNTs by CVD. Raman spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy will be employed to examine the deposited layers. We will study the effect of various catalyzers, substrate materials and deposition conditions on the presence of single-wall or multi-wall CNTs an/or of other carbon phases. The mechanism of the growth of nanotubes will also be the object of study. Knowledge and results of fundamental research are needed for applications of nanotubes in the construction of flat displays as well as in the development of the technology of high sensitive sensors.
