Project description:Optical fiber can be used as a sensor for picking up the distribution or the changes of various physical quantities along the fiber. The investigated quantities are transformed into the changes of the Rayleigh back scattered optical power and (or) into the changes of the state of polarization of the back scattered optical wave. These changes can be extracted and evaluated by the method of the optical timedomain reflectometry (OTDR). However the interaction of the fiber with the analyzed physical quantity and consequently the response of the optical wave are rather complicated.
