Magnetostructural correlations in unconvential magnetic materials.

Project description:The project consists of the synthesis of the building blocks and their joining into solid inorganic materials based on transition metals (Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu) by rational methods of the "crystal engineering" with aim to obtain novel magn. materials as molecule-based magnets, single-molecule magnets, magn. chains, planar and spin crossover systems. The conditions for the tuning of critical temperatures of cooperating phenomena will be investigated. The nature of magn. anisotropy and exchange coupling in relation to the electron and geometric structure will be studied. The aim of the physical study will be the confirmation or the observation of novel quantum effets in low-dimensional magn. systems. The output of the project will be operational magn. materials with application potential in the field of spintronics. The synthesis-characterization-physical measurements-data analysis-theoretical interpretation constitutes one cycle on the spiral of enhancing the useful properties of magn. materials.
