|Project description:||Hydrologic and hydrometeorological characteristics and critical thresholds describing complex hydrological and meteorological events were usually characterized by a single value in the past despite of the fact these events can be better described by a set mutually correlated variables (such as flood peak and volumes, volumes and flood duration, estimates of precipitation intensity with a given duration and frequency etc.). In such cases, to better understand and explain the probabilistic properties of these phenomena and to describe the flood regime, the study of the joint probabilistic behavior of two or more characteristics is necessary. Classical probability theory is limited in such attempts in the choice of the multivariate distribution function and its marginal properties. Recently the study of dependence properties of multiple random variables with the help of copula functions became popular in multivariate analysis of extremes in several branches of science, a few hydrological applications were also reported. The project aims to study the multivariate dependence properties and joint probability distributions of complex hydrometeorological and hydrological variables and design appropriate copula functions for their probabilistic description both at site and regionally in the specific physiographic properties of the mountainous regions of Slovakia.|
