Project description:The project is aimed on physical and chemical modification of surface properties of polymer and ceramics materials by plasma activation at atmospheric pressure. The plasma surface activations will be made using a novel type of surface barrier discharge plasma source generating a thin layer visually almost uniform diffuse plasmas with a high power density. This device can be used for dry, on-line plasma treatment processes. The plasma-chemical interactions on the surface of polymer materials in the course of their plasma activation will be studied in details . The plasma activation of polymer material, like polyolefins, is intended to provide permanently hydrophilic surfaces. The plasma activation, subsequent post-plasma grafting, and eventually also plasma polymerisation, are the tools for preparation of materials with tailor-made surface properties for example conductive materials, biocompatible materials or materials with antibacterial properties.
