This page shows details on the project. The primary projects are displayed together with a list of sub-projects.

Project description:Recycling of tyres by pyrolysis offers an environmentally and economic attractive method. During the pyrolysis process the scrap rubber materials are feding to the pyrolysis reactor, where they are heated in oxygen free atmosphere for example in a nitrogen atmosphere. As a result of the pyrolysis process the polymers and high molecular compounds are broken down to compounds with lower molecular weight. For successful commercialisation of the pyrolysis process the characteristics of the pyrolysis products and their marketability are very important. Solid char (consisting mainly of carbon black) may be used as reinforcement in new rubber products treated to activated carbon. The liquid product (pyro-oil) may be used as fuel or as a source of various chemicals. However, the properties and characteristics of the pyrolysis products depend on the conditions of their production. The aim of this project is to investigate and determine the influence of process conditions on: the amount of individual pyrolysis fractions, porous structure of carbon black produced, content of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAH) in oil fraction.
