Project description:Surface modification of metals is an important and predominant technique for obtaining their biofunctionality for biomedical use as implants [1]. Such surface modification of titanium and several of its alloys may play an additional role providing protection of biological environment restricting the penetration of metal ions into the organism and increasing biocompatibility of the implant with tissue [2]. This is particularly important because of increasing frequency of titanium allergies despite the fact that titanium was a long time considered biologically inert. Therefore, bond layers between metals and bioactive surface play an important role for further osteointegration of hydroxyapatite (HA) coating [3, 4].
