|Project description:||In the project we will focus on maps with high level of symmetry, meaning that their automorphism groups are transitive on vertices, or on edges. Further refinements can be defined by specifying the ?degree of transitivity?. The weakest arises when for any two vertices there is exactly one symmetry taking one vertex to the other, leading to Cayley maps. The strongest is obtained by requiring the group to be regular on edges with a specified direction and a preassigned side on the surface, giving regular maps. Our overall aim is to contribute by developing new theoretical approaches to the study of maps with high level of symmetry. Specific subprojects include resolution of a number of outstanding questions in classification and group-structural characterization of highly symmetric maps.|
