Project description:Development and testing of hybrid process combining adsorption on microparticulate sorbent and microfiltration (AMF process) for removal of boron from seawater. Permeate from deslination by reverse osmosis, what is water for drinking or irigation, contains higher than permitted concentration of boron. Boron at higher than limit concentratins is not acceptable for human or irigation applications. Evaluation of boron removal from seawater and RO permeate by ion-exchange using various commercial and developmental resins especialy microparticular ones. Testing of boron removal in lab-scale RO system with new SWRO membranes. Estimation of microfiltration (MF) characteristics of concentrated suspensions in submerged modules and tubular cross-flow module. Simulation of an MF part and the whole AMF process and estimation of its optimal parameters. The AMF process may find application also in Slovakia at decreasing boron content in geothermal waters.
