Project description:As a result of our joint venture between the TU Darmstadt and STU Bratislava we synthesized new substances with interesting magnetic properties. The X-ray structure analysis revealed the composition and the structural motif of the complexes. The magnetic data were taken with the SQUID magnetometer in two regimes: the temperature dependence of the magnetic susceptibility, and the field dependence of the magnetization at low temperature. The data were analyzed with own unique software. Of our central interests are: (i) magnetic anisotropy predominantly in nickel(II) complexes which manifest itself in a large zero-field splitting; (ii) the spin crossover phenomenon in iron(II) complexes with a possible hysteresis and consequently memory effect; (iii) structural and magneto-structural correlations.
