Project description:Design of concrete structures is currently focused especially on the effects of direct actions. Increasingly are manifesting consequences of indirect, accidental and environmental actions. Indirect actions (e.g. thermal changes, restrained shrinkage) can generate strains and cracks that reduce the serviceability and durability of concrete structures. Another source of failures are the accidental actions. These are the effects of natural character (seismicity, floods), human activity (fire, explosion) and other local forms of damage. Long term exposure to environmental actions (chemical, biological and physical effects of the environment), is causing deterioration of concrete and reinforcement. When considering the reliability of structures we should take into account all types of actions. This holistic approach to the design and verification of structures to be applied in all constructions, especially those involving increased risk in the general threat to the safety of great groups of people.
