This page shows details on the project. The primary projects are displayed together with a list of sub-projects.
|Project description:||First reinforced concrete bridges in the world and in Slovakia were built at the end of nineteenth century. For example, the reinforced concrete road bridge in Krasno nad Kysucou is 121 years old and it is still in service. Why are this one and other bridges standing nowadays, if the design service life of nowadays bridges is 100 years? How is it possible, that these bridges are still standing, if they were built in time of riding horse-drawn carriages and today, trucks are driving on them? How did they not succumb to destruction of externalities, when properties of today materials (concrete and steel) cannot be compared with the old ones? How could these structures be designed, sized, built, if builders did not have knowledge of today engineers? And actually, where are such structures located in Slovakia? Let us learn from history and try to find answers to these questions. Maybe then, we can avoid expensive repairing of new concrete bridges, which are built in this society|
