Project description:The aim of this research is an application of innovative and environmentally friendly technologies for obtaining energy from unconventional or less used wood based waste and other lignocellulose materials that do not conform current requirements for fuel under current legislation. Such waste includes old furniture from agglomerated materials, wood waste produced during demolition, unused wood waste collected post-harvest, lignocellulose-based waste, used cardboard, compost of inappropriate quality and separated mixed combustible waste from mining in landfills, which is already carried out in developed countries (landfill mining). Innovative technologies should provide an alternative decentralized energy recovery of these waste types to the prior solution for production of so-called solid alternative fuel in two municipal waste incinerators and for cement/lime plants within the Slovak Republic. Laboratory experiments and verification experiment in pilot operation will examine in particular the possibility of the usage of pyrolysis for this purpose, the possibility of real use of pyrolysis technology will be analysed and its advantages and disadvantages compared with incineration of biomass in boilers or waste incineration plants. In addition, a one line of comparative research will also be focused on recovering the waste by material-energy developing technique of thermal desorption. The result of the project will be energy and environmental balances of studied variations and oproposal of optimal recovery in currently underused forms of wood that could contribute to reducing energy and raw material dependence of the European Union and reduce the production of greenhouse gases.
